Actor Benedict Cumberbatch doesn’t just play a superhero on the big screen, he’s one in real life too.

It’s being reported that back in November of last year, Cumberbatch, who play superhero Doctor Stranger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Sherlock Holmes on TV, decided to take it upon himself to save a cyclist from muggers. According to the Sun, the actor was in an Uber with his wife when he saw a food-delivery cyclist being hit over the head with a bottle. He then told the driver of the Uber to pull over before getting out and running at the attackers. He shouted at them to “leave him alone” and started to pull them away from the cyclist. The Uber driver saw the attackers turn towards Cumberbatch, so he joined in as well, and eventually the muggers ran away.

The police have reported the incident, but didn’t give any names. The cyclist didn’t have to go to the hospital, and nothing was stolen in the end. The food delivery service the victim works for, Deliveroo, thanked Cumberbatch on Twitter for his help.

In wasn’t until the end of the incident that the Uber driver realized who his passenger was. He was even more amazed by the fact that the incident occurred just around the corner from Baker Street, where the fictional character Sherlock Holmes lives.

As for Cumberbatch, he answered modestly to the Sun when asked about it. “I did it out of, well, I had to, you know,” he said.
