Last November country superstar Carrier Underwood broke her wrist and suffered a cut to her face that required more than 40 stitches during a fall on her front porch, and after the accident she took a little time off to recover, including limited appearances on social media. In January she wrote a note to her fans that stated “When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different,” and throughout it all she slowly started to reveal more of her face. It wasn’t until last week though that she showed her entire face, albeit from a distance. Last night however she returned to the stage for the Academy of Country Music Awards and people got to see that the American Idol alum looks just as amazing as usual.
The 35 year old Underwood took to the stage Sunday, wearing tear-shaped glitter makeup below her eyes to perform her new single. By the time she finished singing “Cry Pretty”, it was clear that the superstar was pretty emotional. She received a standing ovation, and thanked the crowd. Shortly afterwards she returned to the stage with Keith Urban to received the award for Vocal Event of the Year for their duet “The Fighter.”
Urban told Underwood while accepting the trophy that she “just knocked it out of the park,” to which she replied “Thank you for having me.” As she fought back tears Underwood continued “I’m still shaking right now. Thank you.”
Underwood’s accident occurred shortly after she appeared at the CMA Awards last November, which she co-hosted with Brad Paisley. That was the last event she attended until the ACM Awards yesterday.
