Hot Spring 2017 Books For The Music Lover

If you’re a music junkie who is also an avid reader, Spring 2017 offers a perfect opportunity to sink your teeth into an invigorating new read. With this year marking the one year anniversary of Prince and David Bowie’s deaths, the season ahead features titles which commemorate their contributions to music. We’ve curated four tomes which just may find a new place on your bookshelf this season.

My Voice: A Memoir by Angie Martinez and J. Cole, Celebra: As a longtime radio host, Angie Martinez’s voice can be heard at Power 105.1. Having interviewed musicians from Tupac Shakur to Mary J. Blige, Martinez started her career as an intern and quickly worked her way up the ladder. The New York City-born radio personality now shares her story in her new book My Voice, which hits the shelves on March 7.

The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince by Mayte Garcia, Hachette Books: Mayte Garcia is the ex-wife of late legend Prince, who tragically died in 2016 at age 57. The 43-year-old belly dancer was only 16 when she met the musical icon, and is now set to release a new memoir based on her time with him. Expected on shelves on April 4, this book aims to bring fans into their unusual yet powerful love story.

Forever Stardust: David Bowie Across the Universe by Will Brooker, I.B.Tauris: With his famously androgynous style and hit lyrics, David Bowie was a superpower in the entertainment world. Although he died at age 69 last year, his legions of fans ensure that his memory and music will stay alive. In Forever Stardust, author Will Brooker takes a closer look at Bowie’s legacy, from his Ziggy Stardust character to his Blackstar album. 

George Michael: The Life: 1963-2016 by Emily Herbert, Lesser Gods: Following his sudden death on Christmas Day 2016, this new George Michael biography explores the 53-year-old British musician’s life. From his upbringing in a strict Greek Cypriot home in London to his career, this book examines it all. The volume also touches upon sensitive subjects, like the loss of Michael’s mother and his own battles with substance abuse.
