For those of us patiently waiting for Stranger Things season two to begin airing on October 27, an entrepreneur in Chicago thought they had the perfect solution, a pop-up bar honouring the series. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t get the necessary permission from the owner of the series, Netflix, and yesterday they received a cease-and-desist order to close down.

The pop-up bar called The Upside Down opened in late August, and very quickly became a hit. They served drinks with names like Eleven’s Eggos, and was decorated to reflect the streaming series. The bar was so successful that the owner had decided to extend the pop-up bar a little longer up to October 27th to coincide with the second season premiere. Unfortunately for them though, it wasn’t meant to be as they received the notice from Netflix. Part of the letter stated “Unless I’m living in the Upside Down, I don’t think we did a deal with you for this pop-up. You’re obviously creative types, so I’m sure you can appreciate that it’s important to us to have a say in how our fans encounter the worlds we build.”

The bar will now close on October 1st, as originally planned, with no hard feelings from the owners and manager.
