Wallet Watch: Daily Resort Charges Reach $45 in Las Vegas

With the widespread imposition and quick escalation of parking charges, Las Vegas hotels appear to have little interest in maintaining the city’s track record as an economical location. And it’s not just the parking fees.

Last week, 2 popular hotels, the Venetian and the Palazzo, raised their so-called resort charges to $45 a night. That’s up from $39 a night previously, and now the highest such fees in Las Vegas.

Today, resort charges stay at $39 per night at many of the more expensive hotels, including the Aria, Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Mandarin Asian, and Wynn.

The frustrating agreement amongst both tourists and the media is that resort charges total up to legal extortion. They must be banned.

For now, Las Vegas hotels will keep squeezing tourists ever-harder, till occupancy rates fall off or the federal government limits their usage.
