Who Will Direct The Next James Bond Film?

All we know so far about the 25th film in the James Bond franchise is that Daniel Craig will be returning. Other than that there is no title, and so far there isn’t even a director, even though the film is scheduled to be released on November 8th of next year. We do know however who won’t be directing it.

Dunkirk and The Dark Knight Trilogy director Christopher Nolan removed himself from consideration over the weekend during an interview with BBC Radio’s Desert Island Discs series. The director has stated many times in the past how the films have inspired him, and how much he loves the super spy. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean he’d like to direct one of them at the moment. He said “I won’t be the man. No, categorically…I’d love to make a Bond film at some point and I think those producers – Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [Wilson] – they do a tremendous job and Sam Mendes has done a terrific job the last couple of films, so they don’t particularly need me. But I’ve always been inspired by the films and would love to do one someday.”

Nolan wasn’t the first person to turn down the opportunity to direct either. Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve was rumoured to be on the shortlist of preferred directors, but he recently stated he’s too busy working on Dune to helm the film. The other two directors on the list, Yann Demange (’71 ) and David MacKenzie (Hell or High Water), have yet to respond to the rumors. 

In order for the film to meet the release date, Bond 25 will need to start production later this year, which means we may just hear who will take over the reigns of the franchise soon.
